The St John Health Shuttle is a lifeline for our community, with dedicated volunteers ensuring residents can reach vital health appointments in Whakatāne and Tauranga. Whether it’s a specialist visit, a skin clinic, or essential cancer treatments, the shuttle removes the stress of transport for those who need it most.
While the service runs on a koha (donation) basis, the reality is that some patients struggle to meet this cost. To ensure no one is left behind, the Eastern Bay Community Foundation is proud to announce a $2500 donation to the shuttle via the Starfish Fund.
Recently, Eastern Bay Community Foundation trustee Christine Mansell and manager Angela Jackson met with the St John volunteer team to discuss how endowment funds create a lasting legacy.
“The support from the Eastern Bay Community Foundation Starfish Fund is really appreciated,” said co-ordinator Dee de Vries-Wood.
“It truly helps us support the patients who need transport most.”
Ms Jackson noted the importance of these connections: “Endowment funds make a real difference in our community. It was lovely to meet such a dedicated team of volunteers, and I hope this donation becomes a permanent annual tradition.”
Community spirit is what keeps these wheels turning.
