Ōpōtiki locals and visitors to the region can look forward to a sizzling summer of events in Ōpōtiki this year.
Ōpōtiki District Council’s experience and engagement co-ordinator Iranui Huriwai, said this year the calendar of events was a “mix of classic favourites to brighten your summer”.
“The calendar of events is always so popular with visitors and locals alike and we work hard to make sure there is a wide range of events during the hot summer holiday weeks.
“There are the ever-popular favourites like the Mitre 10 Ōpōtiki O-mazing race and summer movie night.
“Partner organisations are putting on some big events like fishing and golf competitions, Coastguard Show and Shine, and the Ōpōtiki Rodeo. And for the third year running, local art and entertainment will come together for the Gourmet Canvas event.
“This year we’re doing a Ōpōtiki Beach Bash at Waiotahe, and a Coasty Beach Bash in Te Kaha and these are an opportunity to make unforgettable summer memories with beach games and races, sandcastle competitions, and the favourite beach dig.
“We’ve combined them into an epic classic Kiwi beach day with sun, prizes and excitement,” Ms Huriwai said.
The famous Ōpōtiki Lantern Festival will be later in the summer.
