The Ōhope Beach Golf Links’ signature event, the Ōhope 10,000 Men’s Open is on this weekend.
The tournament will feature a full field of 124 golfers from across the country competing over two days and 36 holes for a share of an impressive prize table – and the coveted Ōhope 10,000 Men’s Open Trophy.
First established in 1994 by founding committee members Trevor Hart, Bryan Henderson, Warwick Wickham, and Peter Patterson, the long-standing event has grown into one of the region’s premier tournaments.
Ōhope Beach Golf Link general manager Ryan Walker said it was great to see a capacity field for the event.
“We’re very lucky because it’s our major tournament here and our sponsors are always very supportive.
“We manage to attract a lot of interest from out of town and it’s always an exciting couple of days of golf.”
Walker produced a couple of superb rounds last year to take the title.
“I was actually going to work the event but thought since I won last year that wouldn’t be right and I had better get out there and try and defend my title.
“It’s a good field and there’s about 12 golfers who could go out there and win it.”
Walker said the weather conditions looked pleasing.
“I think we’re going to be pretty lucky weather wise. The course is in absolutely superb condition and should hopefully make for some great scoring.
The first golfers will tee off at 7.30am with Walker on the tee at 8.10am.
Golfers play both days hoping to shoot the lowest score of the tournament to take out the coveted title.
Spectators are invited watch and enjoy delicious food at JR’s Café and Cambodian Restaurant, which will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the weekend.
The tournament is well supported with a dedicated organising committee and generous sponsorship from Husqvarna, Hello World, Dawson, Craigs Investment Partners, Nicholson Autos, The Beacon, Golf360, Mitre
10, Landmark Homes, and Glenn’s Glass.
